Micro-Dermabrasion
I am turning 40 in about 10 days and my husband asks me what I would like for my birthday? How can I tell him, "no honey, instead of a sweater and dinner this year I would like this procedure called 'Micro-Dermabrasion'." He likes me for me, and has a hard time understanding why woman and even men are so obsessed with their looks.
So I decide to prepare myself for any questions he may have for me. For instance, what is Micro-dermabrasion? What I have learned is, it is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that has taken a beating from the sun, and the effects of aging. I think the hard selling point for my husband is what I have to go through to make me look and feel younger.
The procedure sounds a bit scary, but my friend told me its really not that bad. First the plastic surgeon uses a device that resembles a fine sandblaster that sprays tiny crystals across my face, mixing gentle (not so gentle) abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. Micro-dermabrasion may also be combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect.
I am sure by this point I will have already lost my husbands interest. Unfortunately, as with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation. Each treatment takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12 but you have to space them 2 to 3 weeks apart. Who has the time for this? I can hear my husband now; "this is the gift that seems to keep on given long after I gave it, how much is this all going to cost us?"
People may wonder why we go through such trouble to look and feel a bit younger but my reasons aren't to look younger but feel better about my appearance. You see, I had really bad acne when I was younger and still get big pimples every now and then as an adult. I heard not only is it is effective in reducing fine lines, "crow's feet," and age spots but it can reduce acne scars as well. I'm sold, anything to reduce my huge scars.
So I have all my benefits together so if he asks me what some are I can easily say well there is virtually no side effects and it gives the skin an overall fresh, healthy-looking glow. This is a non-surgical, safe, effective "lunch hour" procedure. It is effective on all skin colors and types. And there is no anesthetic required. It is excellent for skin sensitive to chemical procedures. Best of all I can pretty much keep up with my normal activities immediately. Not to shabby benefits huh?
These were also some things I need to consider and let my husband know about. As I mentioned before chances are it will requires multiple sessions and maintenance treatments. Patients with good skin tone will show best results, his response to that will be "How do you know if you have one of the good skin tones and I thought it worked well on all skin types? They're a question for the doctor.

So I feel confident this year in letting my husband know what I would like for my 40th birthday and I feel armed with enough knowledge to combat his questions. I hope he understands and decides to support this decision financially and emotionally because I really don't want to pay for it with my mad money, unless someone has a better solution and I will let you know how it turns out.
