It scares me to think that a simple vain procedure could kill me or disfigure me, but it is true. Although typically the amount of Botox side effects and Botox dangers remain low.
Any Botox side effects can typically only last 6 months at a maximum, because Botox treatments are temporary but there have been rare spontaneous reports of death, sometimes associated with dysphagia, pneumonia, and/or other significant debility or anaphylaxis, after treatment with botulinum toxin.
The less frequent side effects of Botox that occur, in about 3% of us, range from adverse reactions including pain in the face, erythema at the injection site, and muscle weakness. These events are thought to be associated with the injection and occurred within the first week. Weakness of the area/injected muscle(s) represents the expected pharmacological action of botulinum toxin. Weakness may also occur in the adjacent muscles due to the spread of toxin. Freaks me out to say the least...
Botox injection treatments were just approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use in April of 2002, and are you ready for this; Botox is the trade name for botulinum toxin A which means it is related to botulism... you know the stuff that kills you.
After knowing all this I am still interested in one of these treatments so I did more research and found that Botox treatments or Botox injection treatments are a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent that works at motor nerve endings, nerves that lead to muscles.
Botox cosmetic is a drug used for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines, I know, fancy words, but to you and me, they are frown lines. These frown lines come from muscles called corrugators and/or procerus muscles. The Botox injection treatment is the name used for the process of injecting the Botox cosmetic product into the patient.
But as I read on further, I saw that this stuff has other uses than to just make us look younger. Botox injection treatments are successfully used to treat blepharospasm and strabismus, and Botox treatments are also proven useful in treating cervical dystonia – each one of these conditions in some way involve spasms, involuntary muscle contractions but with a treatment within a few hours to a couple of days after the botulinum toxin is injected into the affected muscle(s), the spasms or contractions decrease dramatically or completely goes away.
I also found this other procedure called Restylane. It is an exciting injection procedure that can get rid of wrinkles and enhances areas of your face immediately. Areas like the lips, superficial lines around the mouth, forehead lines, and our smile lines. That sounds good to me too.
This treatment consists of injecting Restylane into the skin with a very thin needle. It is injected into this area, and restores the area to a younger looking state. The wrinkle is now smoothed out. This takes about 30 minutes and leaves no marks or scars, and the results can be seen immediately. Follow up injections typically need less Restylane to achieve the results you want and the time between injections is typically 6 to 12 months not bad huh?
I’m pretty much sold now so how much does all of this cost? Figure your surgeon will pay around $400.00 his cost and you will pay anywhere from $500-$2000 for each area injected. Now remember you will end up paying this every four to six months to maintain your result. My concern is even if I want this new bill will this product and procedure be available to me for a long time?
Allergan Inc., the company that makes botox, has issued statements that the supply will be more than adequate to meet expected needs. "We can produce enough products, and we don't foresee any kind of problems with production that would interrupt supply," said Christine Cassiano, a company spokeswoman.
In addition, unlike other vaccines and pharmaceuticals currently in short supply, Botox is central to the manufacturer's growth strategy and a makes MONEY that the company is unlikely to jeopardize. It is also fairly easy to make, and a little goes a long way. Expect the Botox price to increase with demand.
I think I am going to go to a Botox party they are quite the trend. The cost to attend a Botox party can range anywhere from $300 to $1,000 and involve injecting the drug just under the skin to temporarily paralyze the face muscles and this allows the skin to smooth out. That’s pretty simple. I guess that is why these parties are so popular. It kind of seems like an old Mary Kay or Tupperware party. Although please keep in mind that Botox should only be administered by a qualified individual that you have researched, just like any other procedure. Choose your Botox® injection doctor carefully.
